Reducing energy usage and the subsequent production of waste is crucial to prolonging the life of the fragile ecosystems as well as reducing our dependence on nonrenewable resources. Using less energy has obstacles including monetary investment and personal effort. This paper will specifically outline where the individual can make a significant difference in energy consumption through modest behavioral changes. Through research, we are able to split the energy usage of individuals in the United States into three sectors where the most energy is consumed: personal transportation, the food industry, and climate control. We combine data collected by previous studies to recommend modest behavioral changes that the average United States citizen can make to reduce the amount of energy consumed.
