This project investigated the relationship between bipolar disorder symptoms and menopause in 41 research participants at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, as part of an on-going study in the Department of Psychiatry. Investigated was mood symptom manifestation across the menopausal stages in association with endocrinological assessments. This was accomplished with the use of diagnostic data. Database descriptive analyses and correlational statistics were used to assess demographic description of subjects and preliminary association of mood, menopausal stage and reproductive hormones. Correlational strength ranged from insignificant to inconclusive. It was concluded that further research and a larger sample size would be needed to make stronger correlations.
