Rainbow -- bridging XML and relational databases using a flexible mapping -- the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Rainbow System

Public

The interest in using existing relational database technology to serve as a backend to store, manage and query XML data is great. Since different relational schemas may yield varying query performance, flexible mapping is desirable. The Rainbow System proposes a flexible mapping approach that first loads XML documents and then allows for optional restructuring on generated XML schemas using SQL queries. The team has achieved the design, implementation and preliminary evaluation of the flexible mapping component of this system.
