The goal of this project was to study the feasibility of supplying industrial and commercial electrical loads with DC power. A typical industrial building, with known wiring topology, was considered. A basic economic study demonstrates the advantages of DC technologies: reduced power loss and improved power loss and improved power factor. A second theoretical study describes a modern AC/DC converter that operates with near unity power factor and is the ideal solution to the proposed method.
