The recent ergonomic trend in retail products has enticed Norton Company, the project sponsor, to seek ergonomic hand-sanding block designs. Ergonomic and hand-sanding block research provided the basis for a new design. Considerations from both professional woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers were realized in the final design. The design was evaluated according to three criteria: ergonomics, engineering, and manufacturing suggestions and cost comparison. The results of this project will be used to implement a new sanding block in Norton's retail product line.
