Optics experiment for undergraduates

Public

The opening of the IPG Photonics Laboratory in the department of Physics at WPI created an excellent opportunity for students to study optics and photonics. To help fulfill this opportunity, an Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) apparatus and experiment have been developed. Applications and operation principles of OTDRs were researched, and an apparatus was designed, constructed, and tested for use in undergraduate experiments. The OTDR functioned adequately for measuring optical fiber characteristics and achieved desired pedagogical and safety goals.
