This report, prepared for Dr. Bruce Karlin and his colleagues, will describe the history of quality in healthcare and how quality management principles, such as Quality Function Deployment (QFD), can apply to today's healthcare operations. Working from literature and interviews, we will describe what has happened and what is currently happening. We will assess: (1) what the current primary care physicians' offices operations are; (2) what both patients and physicians find important in their healthcare plan, and (3) how QFD can help develop a more appropriate plan.
