The Microstructural effects of flash temperature exposure on IN100

The goal of this project was to determine the microstructural effects of flash fires on rotor disk material IN100. The oxy-acetylene torch simulated flash fire conditions by heating samples for times ranging from one to thirty minutes to temperatures upwards of 950 C. Flash fire simulation on IN100 caused migration of the [gamma-prime] phase to grain boundaries, surface oxide formation, a layer of [gamma-prime]-depleted bulk material near the surface, and coarsening of [gamma-prime] particles.
