We studied the impact of razor clam fishing by "salting." Findings: 1. Concentrated salt solution for extracting clams has no lasting effect on salinity. 2. Concentrated salt solution instantly kills ciliary pumping by gills. 3. There are 30+ licensed razor clammers in S. Orleans, up 1000% since 2000. 4. Each clammer takes 300-800 pounds/day (no limit) 5. Beds can be fished twice before essentially depopulated 6. Horseshoe crab food supply is diminished but total impact is unknown.
