DNA Fingerprinting
PublicThis project investigated the impact of the new technology of DNA fingerprinting on society, especially the legal system and database ethics. Our conclusions propose an expansion of DNA databases to include individuals convicted of any felony, not just violent crimes. The benefit to society of such DNA databases to identify unknown corpses, determine paternity, place a suspect at the scene of a crime, develop leads where otherwise there were none, and link crimes to identify serial criminals outweighs any privacy issues especially for convicted felons.
