Integration of a modern motion control system into existing manufacturing equipment

Public

This MQP develops and implements a plan for integrating a modern motion-control system into an existing piece of manufacturing equipment. The application is on a Jones & Lamson 4512 Combi chucker lathe produced in 1979 and originally configured with a Bendix 892 NC. The replacing motion-control system consists of a Galil DMC-2030 and a PC. The main areas addressed are position sensing, system specification and integration, PLC programming, machine-operator and machine controls and electronics. The selection method and integration choices of position sensing devices is covered, as well as the specific sensors used in the new system.
