Radiological safety analysis of the levitated dipole experiment

Public

Through the use of analytical modeling and computational modeling via MCNP, it was found that the radiation exposure to levitated dipole experiment staff and equipment will exceed the prescribed MIT limits during operation. As a result, different shielding options were explored, and based on available materials and other logistical reasons, particular shield designs were made and recommended, along with operational regimes. It was found that with the flat wall design, radiation exposure would be sufficiently limited.
