Filterability and filtration improvement project for E. & J. Gallo Wineries -- Modesto Facility

Public

Excessive plugging of final cartridge filters has long been a concern at Gallo's Modesto processing facility. Our investigation identified the cause of final filter pluggings, improved current filterability tests, and elucidated chemical reactions that occur during storage of bottling wine. Our methods included observations, discussions, research and experimentation. We developed a series of procedural changes, equipment modifications and areas for future research. If implemented these recommendations are expected to significantly reduce final filter pluggings and improve the overall filtration process.
