South Pole-Aitken Basin -- Robotic sample return mission

Public

A baseline mission was designed to retrieve 1 Kg of sample from the Moon's South Pole-Aitken Basin at 50 deg. S Lat. and 90 deg Long. From a decision tree of mass effective options, the most probable mission was extracted using the rocket equation. The most promising mission consists of a direct route to and from the moon and uses a 2-stage lander that does not rendezvous upon return.
