The goal of this Major Qualifying Project (MQP) was to design an effective speaker box enclosure that utilized a pivoting actuator, speaker cones, and passive radiators to generate sound. The first step in this process was to evaluate existing hardware to determine what improvements could be made. Then, the team focused on developing the lever actuator into a standalone prototype that could produce vibrations in a speaker box enclosure. Finite element analysis, including the use of multiple ANSYS software modules, was applied to determine the effectiveness of the different hardware and technologies applied to each prototype throughout the MQP process. Physical tests were also performed to validate the simulations.
