Calculations of genetic distances between multiple Artemia populations and species

Public

A region of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA was amplified, by use of PCR, from 17 different populations of Artemia. Five different restriction enzymes were digested with the amplified regions to produce restriction fragment patterns. The bands from the fragment patterns of the populations were scored. Genetic distances were calculated from the scored bands data using the program Phylip. The results suggest that different populations of the same species contain little or no genetic distance, while the different species showed more genetic distance.
