Sustainable and shared transportation is vital for communities and overall environmental well-being. Due to the lack of different modes of transportation, a WPI student-organized project in 2015 set out to implement a new bike share program on campus, Gompei’s Gears. In recent years, the program has faced challenges ranging from member participation to maintenance issues. In light of the difficulties Gompei’s Gears faced during the pandemic, issues needed to be addressed. Our team analyzed Gompei’s Gears current operational state and studied other bike share programs. Based on our findings, we provided improvements for the operational aspects of the program to the bike share team. These recommendations included, but were not limited to, an inventory management system, forecasting demand, and infrastructure improvements.
