Asymmetric prostaglandin synthesis

Public

Prostaglandins are medically interesting because of the wide variety of roles they play in the body. This project draws upon previous research on the total synthesis of a prostaglandin skeleton via a noncyclic precursor. The focus of this research is optimization: by finding a facile route to an important chiral acetylenic ester intermediate, the total synthesis can be improved. Kinetic resolution of the key ester via a lipase isolated from Candida antarctica is explored.
