Design of an electromagnetic linear accelerator
PublicA model for an electromagnetic linear accelerator is developed and simulated. The goal of this work is to optimize the launcher's components. Namely, for a given amount of stored energy, the best geometries of the launch ring and the excitation coils are determined such that the greatest amount of velocity is achieved. Comparisons between experiments performed on an actual device and results from the simulation show strong correlation in only one of the three cases considered. Nonetheless, the simulation provides useful information on the behavior of the launcher.
