CLT and Structural Resilience

open in viewerThe goal of this project was to design a baseline four-story Class A office building using mass timber, examine two alternative mass timber Class A designs for advanced post-fire structural resilience, and compare options for a client with regards to fire resiliency, repair scope, and cost-benefit analysis. This report outlines a baseline building design that may require extensive structural repair after a fire. Through fire analysis, an alternative building option was designed to meet Class B occupancy requirements after a three-hour time-equivalent fire. Finally, this report examines the feasibility of a second alternative that would permit Class A occupancy after a three-hour time-equivalent fire. Final recommendations are outlined based on construction costs, repair costs, and risk.
