MP3 jukebox with voice recognition

In this project, the design, analysis and testing of an MP3 player with voice recognition technology is discussed. This project develops fundamentals on what makes a good Speech User Interface (SUI) for selecting songs from large music libraries. Additionally, functionality to perform the basic functions necessary when playing music such as play, stop, and pause were implemented. Various experiments were carried out to contrast the performance of the SUI versus a typical Graphical User Interface (GUI). The results measured were accuracy, speed, and distraction. The SUI was over 98% accurate for selecting the proper song. The speed measurement illustrated that song selection times were similar (within 15%) of each other. Selection by Artist and Album using SUI was approximately a 2x increase. For the distraction measurement, a disagreement between quantitative and qualitative results existed. While most users subjectively assessed the SUI as less distracting than the GUI, a standard peripheral detection test (PDT) illustrated otherwise.
