Infant apnea monitor

The development of a design and prototype of a noncontact infant apnea monitor is discussed. The monitor employs the concept of motion detection via light interruption to detect periodic respiration activity and cessation of activity. The detection system was found to be sensitive to thoracic radial changes of ? .028 inches. Output of the system is a respiration waveform and a DC-averaged rectified waveform.
