This MQP seeks to increase waste sorting efficiency via an automated conveyor belt and gantry system. Specifically, recycling initiatives continue to suffer from issues of efficiency and profitability, leaving them to benefit most from such innovations. The gantry-based system allows for rapid, yet precise, movements between destinations. Integrated visual detection identifies and isolates objects on the belt, predetermining these horizontal and vertical movements without creating delays. Modular design structured around the use of interchangeable end effectors broadens utility and increases the types of recyclables that can be sorted. With these focuses on versatility, reliability, and minimal operational oversight, this project offers a valuable solution for the deficits of the recycling industry.
