Finite-difference method for quantum dots

This project uses the numerical technique known as the finite-difference method to solve for the energies and wave functions of quantum dots. The quantum dots are modeled by the BenDaniel-Duke Hamiltonian. A new application is the structure known as the Quantum Ice-Cream. A detailed study of the electronic localization in the latter is carried out. An important new result is the discovery of high-energy states near the apex of the structures, which has great relevance to laser structures.
