Light effects on Artemisinin production and ADS, EPS and actin gene expression in Artemisia annua

Public

Artemisia annua produces a compound called Artemisinin, proven to kill the parasite that causes Malaria. To increase artemisinin production, the effect of light wavelength on the amount of artemisinin produced was explored under a variety of growth conditions. High performance liquid chromatography was used to quantify the compound. The expression of ADS and EPS, genes affecting artemisinin biosynthesis pathway, is explored using polymerase chain reaction.
