Separation of peroxidase isoforms from the medium of Artemisia annua L. hairy roots

Public

Artemisinin, the antimalarial compound, is not found in the culture medium of hairy roots of Artemisia annua L. that produce the terpenoid in vivo. Peroxidases in the medium are likely degradative agents. Three peroxidases were purified and concentrated from culture medium using dialysis and ion exchange chromatography. An anion exchange column with a pH gradient of 5.0 to 3.5 was used to elute the proteins. The three separated peroxidases will be used for future studies on the degradation of artemisinin.
