Small peptide substitutes for full-length ependymin neurotrophic factor up-regulate SOD
PublicA promising therapy for neurodegenerative diseases can be found in neurotrophic factors (NTF's) because of their ability to regenerate and maintain neuronal cell survival. In collaboration with Ceremedix Inc., this MQP investigated the therapeutic potential of small peptides that mimic the NTF ependymin (EPN). The data obtained to date indicate that EPN peptides up-regulate anti-oxidative enzymes in neurons and fibroblast cells using MAPK pathway, and the response was more efficient when peptides were coupled to a blood brain barrier carrier.
