A study of subcontracting in the United States construction industry

Public

This study examines the practice of subcontracting by construction contractors in the United States. It includes analysis of census data and the results of a questionnaire sent to the Engineering News Record (ENR) top 400 contractors. The primary focus of the study is to assess the extent of subcontracting within different market specialties as well as the reasons for this practice. Industry trends in subcontracting are also examined using census data. The findings from the questionnaire also highlight how the subcontracting rate and reasons for it vary across market specialties.
