Analysis of an index-dwell conveyor system

The Gillette Company uses a number of index-dwell conveyor machines to perform various tasks throughout production. The index-dwell conveyor machine relies on "stop and go" motion to perform a task on the part that is located on the conveyor belt. The objective of this project is to determine the effect of varying index-dwell ratios and cam functions in relation to dynamic behavior of the conveyor system. To complete this objective, a mathematical model of the index-dwell conveyor system was created to investigate the factors that control the dynamic performance of the conveyor system. The mathematical model of the system was integrated into a computer program written by the authors. This computer model was used to investigate each of the factors that controlled the dynamic performance of the conveyor system. The computer model contains various parameter fields, having the ability to be applied to any index-dwell conveyor designs.
