University timetabling

Public

The primary goal of this report is to introduce the read[er] to the world of timetabling problems and the different types of university timetabling methods that exist; and then to create a course scheduling optimization model that suits WPI's environment. First, data of the as-is scheduling process along with the WPI environment were collected and analyzed to understand how the scheduling process works and what kind of parameters and dynamics were involved. Once this step was completed, a model was developed to reflect these circumstances followed by recommendations for the as-is system. Furthermore, a local benchmarking study was carried [out] that compared WPI's system against local colleges' timetabling methods.

  • This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review.
