It was our goal in this project to create instructional lab-based modules for the tenth-grade level pre-engineering program at Doherty High School, Worcester, MA. Our sponsor for this project was the Worcester Public School System. We prepared three such modules: flight, robotics, and forces and motion. These modules are designed to be hands-on and focus on creating projects rather than just lectures and tests, and simultaneously to contribute to the satisfaction of the requirement of the Massachusetts Ed Reform Frameworks for Technology. Another of our objectives in the project was to allow for Doherty students to use certain WPI facilities for their projects and thereby to supplement their learning. The broad goal of the pre-engineering program is to highlight the diversity and richness of engineering fields as careers.
