Antenna simulation software testing and antenna fabrication

Public

A commercially available antenna simulation software is used to model and simulate a large helical antenna to be used by the ground station of WPI's PANSAT nano-satellite program as a transmitting antenna. It was found that the commercial software is not suitable for simulation of the helical antenna with the computing power currently available for this study. On the other hand, the software yielded accurate simulated results for resonnance, return loss, and impedance of a simple microstrip patch antenna. A MATLAB patch antenna simulation software currently under development was also used to simulate the microstrip patch antenna. The result from MATLAB was found to be within 2% agreement of the experimental results.
