Characterization of a steerable antenna mechanism for space flight

Public

The Steerable Antenna Mechanism (SAM) is a small mechanical device used to orient the communications antenna of a satellite in the direction of one or more ground stations while maintaining a specified look vector along one axis of the satellite. Working with MIT Lincoln Laboratory engineers, the team took the prototype SAM from an untested design through assembly and flight-level qualification testing, redesigning any components of the SAM necessary to achieve successful test results.
