Unique geological aspects, such as the cool climate and low cost green energy, have made Iceland a hub for cryptocurrency mining. The goal of our project was to understand the general attitude of the Icelandic people towards Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. This was accomplished through quantitative data collected through structured surveys, as well qualitative data through open interviews with energy and cryptocurrency professionals within the energy and cryptocurrency fields. We found that most respondents were aware of Bitcoin mining but were unaware of the environmental impact. A gender divide among respondents was also noticeable. We recommend additional research be done to further explore the gender divide and develop educational materials to raise awareness amongst the population.
