Connecticut Children's: Applying Analytics to Operational Decision-Making

Público

Connecticut Children’s (CC) is a not-for-profit medical organization specializing in children’s care that is seeking to expand their services by building a new tower. The project team was asked to determine the expected growth of specific patient populations at the hospital to examine the resources needed for the new tower. The team constructed forecasting models for both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Medical Psychology patient populations. For the NICU population, a simulation model was also created to determine the optimal number of beds needed to meet growing demand. The team’s analysis, forecasts, and simulation models give CC a clearer understanding of the hospital’s future demand and thus allows management to make informed, strategic decisions to satisfy demand.
