WIF-B cell line analysis

Public

The aim of this project was to determine if the WIF-B cell line, a mouse hepatoma-human fibroblast hybrid, could be used as a model system for bile induced hepatocyte apoptosis as an alternative to primary cell culture. This is of particular interest because bile acid induced hepatocyte apoptosis accompanies cholestatic liver disease as a result of impaired bile flow. The results of this study revealed that WIF-B cells do not undergo apoptosis following exposure to bile acids. This is most likely due to the lack of significant membrane transport of bile acids in this cell line.
