While industrialization and climate change deplete aquatic biodiversity, fish hatcheries attempt to restore fish stocks and provide fishing opportunities. The Sandwich Fish Hatchery—operated by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife)—is one of the oldest public fish hatcheries in the country. The Sandwich Hatchery invites visitors to explore the grounds and learn about trout biology and aquaculture; however, the staff does not have the resources to provide guided visitor tours. Therefore, I collaborated with MassWildlife and the Sandwich Hatchery to design wayfinding signage for a free-choice, self-guided visitor tour of the Hatchery.
