The concentration of pharmaceutical drugs in water supplies around the world continues to grow due to a lack of awareness and financial constraints. This study sought to explore methods to reduce the concentration of pharmaceutical antibiotics in water sources. Based on previous research, a reaction between Ciprofloxacin (CIP) and potassium ferrate was examined. Quantitative data was collected through a variety of experiments to determine kinetics, extent of reaction and the effects of pH. Overall this study demonstrated the feasibility of utilizing potassium ferrate to oxidize Ciprofloxacin and highlighted areas for future research.
