The main motivation of this project originated in the aftermath of the fatal warehouse fire in Worcester, MA which led to the formation of the Precision Personnel Locator (PPL) project. Its goal is to develop a system for tracking the location of firefighters and other emergency personnel inside the buildings. Our specific portion of the project was to develop Transceiver and Receiver Antennas for use at 420-450 MHz that would be optimized for tracking.
