Technical study of a south Italian sculpture

Public

This project is a technical study, using material science and chemical engineering techniques, of an ancient Greek statue unearthed in Canosa, Italy, performed in conjunction with the Worcester Art Museum. Specifically, microscopic visualizations, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy were utilized for analysis. The process of fabrication of this statue, firing temperature and material composition of the clay, and the presence of restoration materials were identified in this study.
