Sensory description in science fiction and fantasy

Public

Use of descriptive detail in works of science fiction and fantasy has a significant impact on the reader's response to the work. The amount of description in the work is directly correlated to the degree of control the author has over the reader's interaction with the world of the story. In this project, the use of description in J.R.R. Tolkien's "Leaf by Niggle" is contrasted to Stanislaw Lem's use of description in "The Investigation".
