Poly--glutamic acid toxicity and insulin delivery in liver cells

Public

The compound poly--glutamic acid (-PGA) has been shown to have potential use as a drug delivery agent. In this study, cytotoxicity tests were performed using -PGA. Our findings show that -PGA exhibits no cytotoxic effects to cell cultures of human hepatoma cells and do not inhibit differentiation in rat skeletal muscle myoblasts. Further studies using an insulin/-PGA complex were inconclusive, but show potential as a time release agent for insulin delivery.
