Three-dimensional tissue printer

Public

A mechanism for simultaneously delivering bio-absorbable scaffold matrix material and viable cells was developed. Scaffold and cell constructs were created in a single process by rapid accretion of micro particles (cells in a semi liquid matrix). The system includes: 1) three-axis plotter to position micropumping piezoelectric transducer pint heads (one dispenses viable cells in alginate, the other dispenses calcium chloride (CaCI) to induce solidification, 2) software to interpret three-dimensional CAD data, and 3) electronics to interface the software with the hardware.
