Effect of cranberry on adhesion to urinary catheter

This project analyzed the effects of cranberry extract on the adhesion of Escherichia Coli JR1 to silicone rubber tubing, in the hope of reducing bacterial adhesion to urinary catheters. To study this effect, a flow chamber was constructed to circulate artificial urine through ten cranberry treated tubing samples, which were sampled at varying time intervals, and the number of adhering bacteria on each sample was quantified and compared. The results of this project statistically demonstrated that cranberry extract is an effective antiadhesive compound on an inert silicone rubber surface.
