The effect of solutionizing and aging time on the mechanical properties of aluminum 319

Public

The effects of solutionizing and aging times on mechanical properties of aluminum 319 have been experimentally determined. Aluminum 319 cast Jominy end quench bars were heat treated, varying the solutionizing and aging time; the bars were quenched using the Jominy end quench method. The Rockwell testing method was used to determine the hardness of heat treated samples. Hardness graphs for each of the times used were generated and compared. The TTP diagram was generated using quench factor analysis. The hardness data showed that as the solutionizing and aging time increase the hardness increases. It was found that four hours solutionizing and six hours aging was sufficient to obtain satisfactory mechanical properties.
