Increase of aspartate aminotransferase in geldanamycin treated liver slices

Público

Geldanamycin treatment of precision-cut liver slices increases aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels in both the slices and corresponding media. The pathway that causes this enzyme increase was investigated through extensive literature research and it was found that increased levels of unbound heat shock protein 70 (hsp70) probably plays an important role. The study used quercetin, an inhibitor of hsp70, in an attempt to decrease the AST levels. However, the results were inconclusive and did not support nor disprove the discovered pathway.
