Roller coaster

This project deals with the design of a modern steel structure for a previously built wooden roller coaster. Research was conducted to understand the unique challenges associated with roller coaster design and the performance requirements for the steel framing. Spreadsheets were developed and used as design assistants for both calculating forces based upon the physics of motion and determining structural members based upon AISC LRFD provisions.

  • This report represents the work of one or more WPI undergraduate students submitted to the faculty as evidence of completion of a degree requirement. WPI routinely publishes these reports on its website without editorial or peer review.
