Two-story building mechanical vibration control -- mechanical approach through magneto-rheological dampers

Public

The objective of this Major Qualifying Project was to present a proof of concept for the use of non-linear control system. The non-linear, hysteretic actuator used was a Magneto-rheological damper (MRD). The MRD was modeled after literature on an experimental system. A two-story building computer model was developed to test the MRD's response. The results of the system with an ideal controller, a partially developed non-linear control and with the full non-linear control system were compared.
