Comparison of Pre-Operative Site Sterilization Techniques in Equine Medicine

open in viewerIn order to limit post operative infections, surgical preparation is an important step to limit exposure to microorganisms. The goal of this project was to compare the two different pre-procedural sterilization protocols to determine if one was more effective at lowering colony forming units cultured from the sterilization site on equine patients. Both sterilization methods were effective in reducing colony forming units and there was no significant difference observed between the two sterilization protocols. Both sterilization methods had mostly Bacillus left over after sterilization.
