Assistive orthotics technology is a rapidly changing field. Once mostly composed of static braces, the latest devices in orthotics are powered, allowing for people with disabled extremities to accomplish functional tasks by controlling their devices with myoelectric sensors, however difficult this may be. In our studies we sought to use video games to better train users of these devices. We created several designs for games to do this and implemented one of them. This game was found to be effective in a small user study of powered myoelectric orthotics users. The results of this work show that an engaging game controlled with powered orthotics can motivate users to use their orthotics more often, and this is likely to improve such users' competency in controlling their powered orthotics.
